Stylish Sources Contribute to Clinton Re-election |

As the Hillary Clinton juggernaut continues uncontested in her bid for a second Senate term in November’s elections, the New Yorker’s war chest is developing quite the designer cache. Thus far, she has received $112,895 from designers & retailers, making her campaign the #2 recipient – surprising for a Democrat - behind the $132,150 bestowed on Rep. Mark Kennedy (R., Minn.) who is on the Financial Services Committee and the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. In the past, A-listers like Oscar de la Renta have held events in the her honor, and Donna Karan also has opened her home on numerous occasions to host Clinton fund-raisers. Other than a $5,000 contribution from Wal-Mart last year which the Senator – and former Wal-Mart Board member - returned due to “serious differences” with some of the mega-retailer’s operating practices, WWD reports that the Clinton camp has received the following contributions from 7th Avenue: - Newly elected Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) president, Diane von Furstenberg, $9,000 - J. Crew Chairman & CEO Millard Drexler, $5,700 - Leonard Lauder of Estée Lauder Cosmetics, $2,100 - Oscar de la Renta, $5,000 - Nicole Miller, $1,000 - Kenneth Cole, $3,000 - Vera Wang, $3,200 - American Vogue editrix, Anna Wintour, $1,000 - Gap Inc., $1,000 - Limited Brands Inc., $5,000 - Liz Claiborne’s CEO, Paul Charron, has forked over $6,000 in the past few years "I have great admiration for Hillary and respect for her intellect," longtime Clinton pal Charron told WWD. “I think she is slightly to the left of center on social issues and slightly to the right of center on economic issues and, frankly, that is kind of the way I am." As a self-proclaimed "unconditional Democrat” Von Furstenberg is certaintly walking the walk when it comes to supporting sistah-power. "I think Hillary Clinton is competent, compassionate and effective," she explains. "She is formidable and she represents New York really well, and I hope she continues to do so." |
