Anchor Announced $10M in New Series A Funding

Anchor makes it super easy for anyone to hear, share, and create interactive streams of audio called stations. It’s like radio, but bite-sized, interactive, addictive, and way more fun. Anchor announced that it is reinventing audio with $10M in new Series A funding, led by GV.

Anchor has been doing quite a bit with their platform since they first appeared. They started by making it super easy for anyone to start a podcast. by removing the barrier that appears when people want to podcast but don’t feel as though they have the right gear.

In July of this year, Anchor made it possible for users to publish their Anchor podcast to major podcast outlets like Apple Podcast and Google Play – with just the tap of a button. This was followed by Anchor Video, which they improved to enable audio to go viral on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. More recently, Anchor made it possible for users to edit audio on their smartphones.

All that hard work appears to have paid off. Anchor announced that they have received additional funding.

Now we’ll get to further pursue our mission with $10M in Series A funding, led by GV, bringing our total amount raised to nearly $15M. This means we’ll get to push ahead to democratize the creation and consumption of audio. And we’ll continue building the world’s best audio-first team, right here in New York City: Home to some of the most creative people in the world.

GV launched as Google Ventures in 2009. It is the venture capital arm of Alphabet, Inc. They have invested in more than 300 companies that push the edge of what’s possible. M.G. Seigler of GV will be joining Anchor’s Board of Directors.

Brian O’Malley of Accel Betaworks will also join Anchor’s Board of Directors. Accel Betaworks was Anchor’s first-ever investor. Accel is now investing out of their new Betaworks Ventures Fund.
