Cleanfeed Launched New Studio Tools for Podcasters

Cleanfeed, a collaboration tool for high definition, live audio and recording in your browser, takes feedback and experiences from the professional radio industry and launches its enhanced studio tools, improving the service for podcasters and broadcasters globally.

Cleanfeed has become an established go-to service for broadcasters, podcasters, journalists, radio and just about anyone that requires the need to broadcast or record in high-definition audio, straight from their browser. Striving to continually improve the user and guest experience, Cleanfeed announced the launch of their enhanced studio tools. The tools, all housed in your web browser with no requirement for any external hardware or software include: enhancements to Cleanfeed’s existing Clips feature, and a new Player for longer cuts of audio.

The tools give podcasters and broadcasters the functionality of a professional radio studio, straight out of their laptop. Features now give users the opportunity to give their listeners and guests a finished production experience, including the ability to play intro and background music, host a panel show or quiz with sound effects, review music, have guests comment on interviews or even play voxes from the public.

Cleanfeed continues to be everything you would expect from their service, high quality audio, very responsive yet straight forward in appearance and incredibly powerful.

Marc Bakos, co-founder of Cleanfeed comments: “As business owners we are continually striving to take feedback directly from our users, as well as industry professionals, to ensure we are servicing our community with the best user experience possible. The new enhanced tools really reinforce that creativity is only ever limited by our imagination and we are excited about the possibilities that these features open for everyone who uses them.”

Mandy Morrow, Director at Crew Radio, comments: “Cleanfeed has been powering our radio station and it keeps getting better! The new Player and updated Clips allow us to produce our recorded shows as if they were live, giving us a finished sound which our audience loves. Its simplicity and ease of use means we’ve not had to look elsewhere to integrate audio into our remote shows, we can do it right from inside Cleanfeed!”

Spotify Launched Sound Up LatinX

Spotify announced Sound Up LatinX. It calls for LatinX podcasters in the United States to sign up to tell their stories.

Earlier this year, we shared we’d be launching Sound Up LatinX to directly address the disparities present in the podcasting community. Today, we invite aspiring U.S. LatinX podcasters to apply for the program.

Fernando Spuri, Manager of Sound Up, had a lot of say about it. One of the key points was: “We’re looking for creators with powerful ideas that want to tell whatever stories on whatever subjects that resonate with them best. Of course, those subjects are an intrinsic part of almost all LatinX, but how and with what intensity they want to address them is up to them.”

All LatinX U.S. residents age 20 or older – regardless of immigration status – are invited to apply to Sound Up U.S. LatinX now. Sign-ups close October 1, 2021. Please apply as an individual, rather than as a show or a group. Spotify can’t wait to hear what you have to say.

Sound Up LatinX is divided into two parts. First up is a virtual training program in 2021, which will take place over the course of eight weeks. The 10 participants who are short-listed by Spotify will attend workshops for a comprehensive introduction to the art of making a podcast. Ultimately, participants will create and submit a podcast trailer and pitch proposal for the opportunity to be selected as a finalist to attend part two: in-person Sound Up sessions in 2022.

Maria Murriel and Isis Madrid, co-founders of Pizza Shark will be facilitating Sound Up U.S. LatinX. Maria has been a Sound Up facilitator for the U.S. program already in 2020 and 2021, after participating as a speaker in 2019. Maria and Isis have both delivered Spotify’s global training in how to deliver the curriculum to new Sound Up facilitators in new markets globally.

NAB Show Cancelled Their 2021 Event

NAB Show has canceled its 2021 event. They posted some information about this on their official website. From the information:

To Our NAB Show Community:

For more than a year we have worked tirelessly to bring our industry together safely in Las Vegas at NAB Show. Unfortunately, the pandemic and surge of the Delta variant has presented unexpected and insurmountable challenges for our global community.

As we have always kept the best interest and safety of the industry as our priority, it has become apparent in the face of these challenges that we can no longer effectively host NAB Show or our co-located events, the Radio Show and Sales Management Television Exchange, in person.

NAB Show is the premier destination for the media and entertainment industry and we will not move forward with a show that delivers anything less than the excellence our community has come to expect and deserves from us.

While we are disappointed that we will not be together again in person next month, we look forward to converging in Las Vegas at the 2022 NAB Show, April 23-27, 2022, to reignite our passion for our business and focus on a bright future ahead.

Stay tuned for details regarding virtual options for accessing select 2021 NAB Show content through NAB Amplify.

Obviously, this short notice from NAB Show is going to pose problems for podcasters who were planning on not only attending the show but also streaming (and/or recording) interviews with people who are presenting new products. There goes your plans for content!

I think NAB Show could have done this better by making their announcement earlier. Waiting to make the announcement could cause a lot of people to lose the money they already spent on travel, hotel rooms, tickets, and whatever else was required.

Overall, it is wise for NAB Show to consider the Delta variant and decide not to risk the health of those who would have attended this year’s Show. Nobody wants to be the convention that turned into a super spreader event.

Wondery and Tinkercast Announce New Strategic Partnership

Wondery and Amazon Music, announced a strategic partnership that will begin by focusing around an exclusive licensing and ad sales partnership with all new existing content from Tinkercast, the leading kids and family podcast company.

Starting in September and expanding into 2022, Wondery will gain exclusive rights to Tinkercast merchandise and exclusive distribution and ad sales rights to podcast content, including hit shows Wow in the World, Two Whats and a How, Camp WeWow, and more to come.

Tinkercast will launch two new shows in the coming months: Who, When, Wow! and Flip and Mozi’s Guide to How to Be an Earthling. Created by Tinkercast and hosted by Rebecca Sheir (Circle Round), Who, When, Wow! is an auditory journey into the lives of unsung heroes, unknown heroines, and amazing humans. Each episode immerses kids and their grown-ups in a historical narrative around one fascinating figure you might not hear about in school but brought WOW to our world!

The second new Tinkercast Original follows alien travel guides, Flip and Mozi, who crash their UFO into Earth and have to call a “tow ship” from their home planet. So they do what any good travel writer, blogger, or ponder would do, and decide to wait out the 3,000 lightyears it will take to arrive learning How to Be An Earthling! Flip & Mozi’s Guide to How to Be an Earthling features Tinkercast’s signature “cartoon-for-the-ear” audio animation and The Pop Ups award-winning stylings to inspire today’s kids to find harmony with the earth and be caretakers of all our animal earthlings! Flip & Mozi are curious and not-so-courageous reporters that encourage listeners to explore their own world and submit “field reports” of animals they observe to be featured on the podcast!

New Tinkercast content will be released one week early, exclusively available on both Amazon Music, and ad-free on Wondery+. New episodes will continue to be available on all podcast services after the one-week exclusive window. Additionally, Amazon Music and Wondery will expand Tinkercast’s merchandising business with new products and Prime shipping, and its availability to even more listeners through voice with Alexa.

“Tinkercast has led the way in engaging the hearts, minds and imaginations of young listeners, creating fun ways to educate and enrich their lives,” said Jen Sargent, Wondery CEO. “ We are thrilled to partner with the leader in kids and family audio content as we continue to build our slate of content for everyone to enjoy.”

“We are beyond proud to have our kids and family content live alongside Wondery and Amazon Music shows and we can’t wait to wow audiences with our new original podcasts through this partnership this fall.” said Meredith Halpern-Ranzer, Tinkercast CEO.

Wondery is home to family storytime podcast Little Stories Everywhere hosted by Academy Award Nominated Actor Virginia Madsen and celebrated voice actor Robbie Daymond. Little Stories Everywhere brings you magical, adventurous, fantastical tales for the entire family. And first-of-its-kind immersive storytelling podcast Imagined Life Family, with the same hosts, will take you on an immersive journey into the life of someone who has made a positive impact on the world, from Lin Manuel to Jane Goodall. This new partnership with Tinkercast signals Wondery’s intent to expand even more into the kids and family content space.

I’m pleased to inform you that I’m entering an agreement to pass Hot Pod onto Vox Media, where it will become part of The Verge. Ashley Carman, with whom I’ve collaborated a bunch in the past and whose work is cited frequently in these pages, will be taking over as lead writer. Those plans were announced in Variety as well as the Vox Media/New York Media press room earlier this morning.

Starting next week, Nick Quah will be joining Vulture as a full-time podcast critic. He will be starting another newsletter called 1.5x Speed. Outside of that, he “is also going to tinker around with a few side projects.” One of them is a Substack.

Here are some other things to know:

Hot Pod will go completely dark for the next few weeks as they set up for the relaunch.

Paid Hot Pod subscribers will get a free three-month subscription to New York Magazine. If you’re already a paid subscriber, expect a promo code to be in your inbox in the coming weeks, where you can sign up. Existing subscribers who joined Sidechannel (Discord) that Hot Pod has been a part of, will continue to have access, though the channels specific to Hot Pod will be archived. Nick Quah will be discontinuing Hot Pod’s unique Sidechannel sign-up link.

You should expect continuity when Hot Pod returns in a few weeks.
