Podcasting is all about syndication; you want your show in as many places as possible in order to reach the largest potential audience. Big podcast directories like Apple Podcasts and Spotify get a lot of attention. Did you know Blubrry Podcasting has its own podcast directory of over 1.3 million shows? While many podcast directories are simple lists of shows, Blubrry’s directory is much, much more.

Getting Established
Its podcast directory is one of the first services Blubrry provided to podcasters. The directory is one of the longest-running and widest-ranging collections of podcasts in existence. From the start, Blubrry allowed podcasters to submit their shows to the directory for free; the only requirement: create a free Blubrry account.

Blubrry is constantly monitoring APIs for other public podcast directories and automatically adding new shows from those sources. Your show could already be present in the directory and waiting to be claimed, even if you’ve never visited the Blubrry website.

Podcast Discovery Built-In
Blubrry’s podcast directory isn’t just a place for podcast producers. It’s also a powerful tool podcast consumers can use to find their next favorite shows. The directory features a curated list of podcasts, hand picked by Blubrry staff. There’s also dedicated subdirectories for popular categories like Comedy, Business, Religion, True Crime, and more. If that’s not enough, podcast fans can drill down into specific topics using the directory-wide search engine. Once a new discovery is made, podcast episodes can be played immediately within the directory or shows can be followed within various podcast apps using the links in the directory sidebar.

Video Podcasts, Too
Many podcast directories limit themselves to audio only . But the Blubrry directory includes all types of podcasts, regardless of format. That means it’s possible to find and watch video podcasts from many different content categories right there in the directory.

Beyond The Directory
Software developers have access to everything in the Blubrry directory via the Blubrry API. Imagine the cool apps/services that could be built with all of that podcast data. Just another reason to make sure your show is included in Blubrry’s podcast directory!

Blubrry Partners with Deezer

Blubrry announced that they have made it easier than ever for podcasters to distribute their podcasts to even more listeners. Which is why, for the past year, Blubrry has been quietly working with Deezer behind the scenes.

The result? Next week you’ll be able to submit your podcast to Deezer and their 14 million monthly active users through Blubrry, one of the most flexible and powerful podcasting platforms on the market.

How do I get my podcast on Deezer?

It’s actually pretty easy. Why Blubrry and Deezer?

Deezer is huge. As of January 2019: “Deezer had 56 million licenses tracks in its library, with over 30,000 radio channels, 14 million monthly active users, and 7 million paid subscribers.” And – like about every other streaming audio platform, Deezer wants in on the growing podcast market. Which is where Blubrry comes in.

“We touch in excess of 75,000 shows and have 150 million downloads a month across all of our customers” says Todd Cochrane, Blubrry’s CEO. “So, we could bring 75,000 shows to Deezer. “ Even better? If you’re a hosting customer, Blubrry’s IAB certified podcast stats platform will still give you the most reliable, accurate data available on the market today.

Blubrry Podcast Directory Tops 600,000 Shows

Blubrry Podcasting, a podcast services leader in the industry, recently celebrated 600,000+ shows in their directory. The directory, allows for anyone, Blubrry user or not, to listen to a podcast and see a list of the show’s episodes, all for free.

The directory, which was introduced in 2006, has seen significant growth in the podcasting industry since 2014. In 2017, the directory included more than 120,000 new shows; they project over 180,000 new podcasts this year, an increase of 50 percent over the previous year.

Podcasts are updated hourly, show hosts can claim their show, which includes a link to their show’s website. As opposed to other directories, there are also multiple ways for listeners to subscribe via Android or Apple devices and most importantly share the podcast.

“Surpassing 600,000 shows in the Blubrry Podcast Directory, which has been around since we launched Blubrry, provides infinite opportunities to podcast listeners and allows us to track ongoing in the podcasting space,” said Todd Cochrane, CEO of Blubrry.

Blubrry will continue to monitor trends in the market, release data and relevant information on the podcasting industry based on discoveries made analyzing the hundreds of thousands of podcasts and the near 50,000 podcasts measured by our IAB compliant Podcast Statistics.

As much growth as the industry has seen, however, there is a great deal of room to grow in specific categories.

“Many of the typical topics are covered well by various podcasts,” said Angelo Mandato, CIO of Blubrry. “But the directory, as large as it is, shows us that there are many categories that are underserved.”

“Categories such as ‘Kids and Family’, “Games and Hobbies’, and ‘Government and Organizations’ are severely underrepresented,” Mandato said. “This presents notable opportunities for podcasters to fill these topics.”

In fact, Mandato said, “The largest category is ‘Religion’. Many congregations have gravitated toward podcasting in recent years, and made it an essential component of their service.”
