Trixie Mattel To Host The Podcast Academy’s Fourth Annual Awards For Excellence In Audio On March 26 In LA

The Podcast Academy, the preeminent professional podcast organization, announced that season 3 winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” Trixie Mattel LA Live Los Angeles. TPA also unveiled that it will bestow upon Malcolm Gladwell the esteemed Governors Award, which recognizes a podcast or individual for the compelling influence they’ve had on the industry.

Additionally, TPA will honor pop-culture podcaster, Ira Madison III with the Impact Award, which recognizes an individual or podcast that has made a significant, positive effect on its listeners.

The Ambies celebrate excellence in podcasting and elevate awareness and status of podcasts as a unique and personal medium for entertainment, information, storytelling and expression. The ceremony will highlight 192 nominees across 27 categories with winners to be selected by every voting member of The Podcast Academy (TPA). Trixie Mattel is an American singer, actor, drag queen and recognized “Skinny Legend.” She is also a Billboard Heatseekers #1 charting recording artist (One Stone, 2018), a wildly successful touring act, and one half of a comic duo with Katya on YouTube (“UNHhhh” & Netflix’s “I Like To Watch”). The New York Times best-selling author is the co-host of the popular podcast with Katya called The Bald and the Beautiful, which received the 2021 Queerties Award for Best Podcast in 2021. She stars in her own Discovery+ reality renovation show, “Trixie Motel” and released her double LP “The Blonde and Pink Albums’ to acclaim from Rolling Stone, Billboard, People, Vogue, NPR and more, as well as a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Stagecoach Festival, and Austin City Limits.

Ira Madison III is a cultural critic, TV writer, and host of the Crooked Media award-winning podcast Keep It. His work has been featured in GQ, Vulture, The Cut, and MTV News. As a television writer, he’s written for “Uncoupled,” “Q-Force”, “Nikki Fre$h”, and “Daybreak”. His debut essay collection Pure Innocent Fun will be published by Random House in early 2025.

Malcolm Gladwell is the author of seven New York Times bestsellers, including The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers, Talking to Strangers, and The Bomber Mafia. He is the co-founder of Pushkin Industries, an audiobook and podcast production company that produces the podcasts Revisionist History, Against the Rules with Michael Lewis, The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos, and Broken Record.

Ross Mathews and Nikki Boyer to Co-Host The Ambies 2022

The Podcast Academy, the preeminent professional podcast organization, announced that Straight Talk with Ross Mathews’ dynamic duo Ross Mathews and Nikki Boyer (2021 Podcast of the Year winner; Dying for Sex) will co-host its second annual Awards for Excellence in Audio (The Ambies) on March 22. The ceremony will be streamed LIVE on YouTube and Twitch from The Mayan Theater in Los Angeles, CA at 6PM PT/9PM ET. This year’s Ambies are presented by Wondery with additional sponsor support from Audible, Audacy, PRX, Tenderfoot TV, The Hollywood Reporter, and Loeb & Loeb.

Mathews and Byer stated, “As former lovers, it will certainly be awkward for us to work together, but we’re professionals and refuse to let our unbridled passion get in the way of us hosting the Ambie Awards this year. We can’t wait!”

The Ambies celebrate excellence in podcasting and elevate awareness and status of podcasts as a unique and personal medium for entertainment, information, storytelling and expression. The ceremony will highlight 178 nominees across 25 categories with winners to be selected by every voting member of The Podcast Academy – in addition to a Governor’s Award.

Eligible new members will be able to vote to determine this year’s winners if registered by February 14. Last year’s winners featured activists, award-winners, bestselling authors, luminaries and renowned journalists. In addition to Boyer’s Dying for Sex win for Podcast of the Year, winners also included Tessa Thompson (Best Performer in Audio Fiction; The Left Right Game), Winds of Change which took home the most Ambies with three wins (Best Podcast Host, Best Reporting, Best Script Writing – Nonfiction), Driving the Green Book (Best History Podcast), plus much more.

The Ambies 2022 Are Open For Submission

The Ambies celebrate excellence in podcasting and elevate awareness and status of podcasts as a unique and personal medium for entertainment, information, storytelling and expression.

The Podcast Academy has expanded the Show Recognition categories to include Best Podcast for Kids and Best Indie Podcast. The Ambies 2022 are accepting entries. The last date to submit your entry is December 3, 2022.

There are two types of award categories to consider for your submissions: Show Recognition categories and Talent Recognition categories. Find the category that is right for you here.

Before you get started with submission(s), please take a moment to review the rules and the entry process. Please note, names and titles entered on your submission form may be used in print and/or online if your podcast is nominated for an Ambie.

Here are some things to know about the rules:

Production companies, individual producers/creators, and distributors of a podcast series which published at least 3 episodes during the period from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021, are eligible for consideration. Any ongoing podcast can enter, and any miniseries podcast can enter so long as they published episodes in 2021.

English language only, at this time.

ENTRY FEES:

  • Members of The Podcast Academy – $100
  • Non-Members – $175
  • Payments may be made by credit card, PayPal, or bank transfer.
  • Submission reimbursements available for qualifying individuals through The Podcast, Seriously Awards Fund
  • Additional scholarships may be available through The Podcast Academy.

Category Submission Limits: There are two types of category: Show Recognition and Talent Recognition.

  • Show Recognition Categories: A podcast may be submitted into a maximum of three Show Recognition Categories.
  • Talent Recognition Categories: There are no limits on Talent Recognition Categories.

Voting: Regular Members of The Podcast Academy will have one month to listen to nominated podcasts in their assigned categories and vote for winners.

Winners will be announced on March 22, 2022.

The Podcast Academy Announced The Ambies

The Podcast Awards has announced The Ambies, which celebrates excellence in podcasting and elevated awareness and status of podcasts as a unique and personal medium for entertainment, information, storytelling and expression. These annual awards of merit are confirmed upon those deemed to be most worthy by their industry peers.

There are two types of award categories:

Show Recognition awards are presented to the creator or producer of the respective podcasts (an individual, or a company). For these category-specific podcast (eg Sports), submitters are invited to select the category most appropriate to their podcast, as generally understood by their peers.

  • Best News Podcast
  • Best Sports Podcasters
  • Best True Crime Podcast

The entry fee for members is $100. The entry fee for non-members is $175. Nominations are being accepted now. The entry period closes on December 15, 2020. Nominees will be announced in February of 2021. Awards ceremony will be held on March 28, 2021.
