The Podglomerate Taps Former Gimlet Media Showrunner As New Lead Producer

The award-winning podcast services firm The Podglomerate has hired Katelyn Bogucki – who was previously executive producer of Gimlet Media’s Archetypes, the podcast hosted by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex – as their new Lead producer.

In this newly created role reporting to Chris Boniello, The Podglomerate’s Vice President of Production Services, Bogucki will be integral to the near- and long-term success of The Podglomerate’s production department, which services both internal and external stakeholders. She will help expand the firm’s slate of original podcasts, including their recently-released original show Podcast Perspectives and the company’s Signal Award-winning podcast Missing Pages, as well as the Podglomerate’s slate of client podcasts.

Bogucki joins The Podglomerate after spending the past decade as a prolific podcast producer, during which she oversaw the production of Vox Media’s podcast The Grey Area; produced episodes for Vox Media’s podcast The Weeds; served as the show runner of Gimlet Media’s acclaimed podcast How to Save a Planet, and was a founding producer of Gimlet’s Creative, Gimlet’s award-winning in-house creative studio. Bogucki also launched HuffPost’s inaugural slate of podcasts in 2014.

Podcast marketing leader The Podglomerate has hired Emmy Award-winning producer Chris Boniello as its new Vice President of Production Services.

In this newly created role, Boniello will oversee production and audio editing for The Podglomerate’s various clients and podcast series. Reporting directly to Podglomerate founder and CEO Jeff Umbro, he will work to broaden the company’s capacity for audio editing, mixing, and sound engineering services for its high-profile portfolio of podcast clients.

Boniello joins The Podglomerate after spending the past decade as a senior editor for multi-million dollar commercial video campaigns and TV series, overseeing productions for Fortune 500 brands including Nike, Coca-Cola, Mercedes-Benz, Comedy Central, Paramount, Spotify, and ESPN (where he won the Emmy Award for “Outstanding Sports Promotional Announcement” for his large-scale video production focused on the 2014 FIFA World Cup). After spending a brief time in the film unit at NBC’s Saturday Night Live, Boniello jumped into the podcasting industry as a sound editor, mixer, and producer.

Podcast marketing leader The Podglomerate has hired Joni Deutsch, an award-winning host and producer who has spent ten years with NPR and public radio stations, as its new Vice President of Marketing and Audience Development.

In this newly created role, Deutsch will lead the firm’s marketing and audience growth strategies. Reporting directly to Podglomerate founder and CEO Jeff Umbra, she will work to broaden the company’s reach in podcasting and in the broader digital audio sector while managing a high-profile portfolio of podcast clients including PBS, CVS Health, Expedia, MIT, Stanford University, and various NPR stations.

“I’m thrilled to bring my experience working at the intersection of content and audience to the Podglomerate,” says Deutsch. “I look forward to working with our team to connect great podcasts with new audiences.”

Most recently, Deutsch was podcast manager at WFAE (NPR in Charlotte, North Carolina), where she oversaw the first Charlotte Podcast Festival (named one of the “best podcast conferences” by major audio platform Buzzsprout) and developed award-winning podcasts, including SouthBound (with Pulitzer Prize finalist Tommy Tomlinson) and She Says (the investigative series that topped the Apple Podcast charts). She also created and hosted WFAE’s music program Amplifier, named “Best Podcast” by several North Carolina publications.

In addition to being a long-standing NPR Music contributor who has written about Billie Eilish to Bill Withers, Deutsch was assistant producer for the NPR Music’s legacy public radio music program Mountain Stage. She was the youngest person, and the first woman, to get guest-host in the show’s decades-long run.

A supporter of inclusive media and a mentor in digital leadership programs, Deutsch has been honored by the Edward R. Murrow Awards, the Web Awards, the Gracie Awards, the Online Journalism Awards and Axios Charlotte’s “30 Under 30” (where she was called “The Sarah Koenig of Charlotte”). Deutsch has also written about the future of podcasting for Harvard University’s Neiman Lab (featuring “some of the smartest people in journalism and digital media”), with Pointer listing her work next to Mr. Roger and Fresh Air’s Terry Gross as “50 Ways to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Public Broadcasting Act”.
